Women in business 2018

Beyond policy to progress

London - In honor of International Women’s Day, Grant Thornton International Ltd. has explored women’s participation in senior management for 14 years using our International Business Report survey data. This year’s annual Women in business benchmark report draws on findings from 4,995 interviews with senior management teams across 35 countries.

More businesses have women in senior leadership roles but a meaningful gender balance remains elusive

Grant Thornton International Ltd. has been investigating the progress of women in business around the globe for 14 years, exploring how business leaders think and feel, and outlining practical steps that can create change.

In 2018, our International Business report “Women in business: beyond policy to progress” finds global businesses have taken one step forward and one step back when it comes to gender diversity.

While the number of businesses with at least one woman on their senior leadership team has significantly increased, the proportion of senior roles held by women has marginally declined. As a result, businesses are missing out on the benefits of true diversity – critical at a time when every sector is facing disruption. We call on businesses to go beyond policy to create an inclusive culture that leads to a genuinely diverse senior management team.
